Read WebGrrl's Point of View from Past Broadcasts

Oh...such a darn turn on! So seductive...butterflies!  In love...!

My Web Browser, that is.

Did you ever want to get locked in a library overnight "by accident"?

Spend hours in the Reference Section - Trashy Novels?

The Web is just like that - but she has millions of volumes!

Is it just WebGrrl who has such a crush on the Web? No! Think of all those Wall Street types. They're in full blown infatuation with .com stocks. And they're not exactly monogamous. .com IPO frenzy is akin to a single man walking into a packed girls-only bar. Grab as much as you can hold, switch in a second if something turns your head.

Isn't the internet being wildly accepted or could it be just a passing fad (we all laugh together!) for geeky grrls like me?

Know these stats? They're legendary…

Radio took 30 years to develop an audience of 50 million.

TV took 13 years to build an audience of 50 mil.

Ok - but - you know what I'm going to say WebGuys: the internet only took 4 years to amass rabid fans of OVER 50 mil.

AND every 100 days Internet use doubles!

Today (and that's relative) there are 100 million people online. (OK don't go all mathematical on me.)

Let's talk shopping:

The COMMERCE dept. reports so much money is changing hands online that this digital economy accounts for 8% of our gross domestic product.

For example, that's a larger share of the GDP than the entire automobile industry. (Take that, you fossil fuel conglomerates.)

How do you know you're a Major Net Junkie?

Elevated procrastination to an art - there's no "quickly looking up" anything. Let's see…ooo - this link looks interesting…ooo - I wonder where that goes….ooo - I'm LOST!

The web is NOT a tool. It is a living, breathing behemoth that is a reason unto itself.

I can talk CODE with my husband. "Ah, how did you get that applet to refresh?"

(And - hey - your LUCKY if you have a guy like that!)

Or get really interested in a WebGrrl listserv when someone posses a question like how one gets text to wrap around an image. This was a much responded to question with CODE flying all around. Seems the consensus was <BR CLEAR=all> …but there are many variations offered.

Your heart actually starts beating faster when you hear someone say it's not hard to build an SML Parser.

Or you hear a good word or phrase and wonder if that domain is taken. I spend hours typing dream domain names into NetworkSolutions. I carry around a list of 50 that I have to narrow down someday - coz I already have several domains up (volcanos, webradiostation, work page, personal page, WebTalkGuys) and I want more!

Start thinking of everything in terms of a version or upgrade: like my evaluation expired on Husband 1.o so I upgraded to WebTalkGuy PLUS version 2.0. You know - he came with a couple plug-ins (that's a sone & daugher).

But you don't have to be a techie to get lost in the web for six straight hours until you get up for just a moment and practically collapse because your leg muscles atrophied.

Like any good addict - it gets intensly more fun once you spread your addition around. Every addict evangelizes. "Good stuff, man". My good stuff are killer grrl links. I get crazy shooting off emails of links to my friends and to myself - for later. (Those link tangent digressions get you blissfully off-course.)

Of course, I'm preaching to the choir here coz I'm surrounded by webheads that are FAR more in deep than I. These guys will forget to EAT and SLEEP. Me - I DO turn off my computer in time for Allie McBeal (I understand that its been said a TRUE WEBGRRL would not dare watch Allie - too coquettish, they say. Needs more Grrr in her Girl. But that's OK - it's a balance.
